All about Traditional Seal Embossers

The traditional seal embosser dates back to the Babylonian Empire of roughly 3200 BC. These seal embossers were adopted universally mainly for authenticating documents in England in the twelfth century. Most recently, it is common to see modern seal presses sitting in a courthouse, on a lawyer’s desk, County Clerk’s office, or post office. Because of ink stamps and electric seals, the conventional seal presses are quickly becoming outdated. Nonetheless, some institutions and/or individuals still use them. In some quarters, their relevance still remains the same.

Traditional seal embossers are decoratively attractive. Due to their scarce nature, conventional seal pressers have become collector’s items and true relics. They are not only decoratively attractive; these beautiful items are also historically significant.

Traditional seal embossers have a provenance that represents a certain time in history, a meticulous company or government agency in which they were utilised. The image appearing on a die represents a particular point in time that was highly significant in the past. The collecting world now fully appreciates these items for the role they played in history as well as their heritage.

Then and now

Historically, common seals were the standard means through which companies would execute documents. They needed to be affixed to deeds. “Do i need to throw my seal away?” This is a common question among many people. No, throwing your seal away is not necessary. As much as companies no longer need seals to execute documents, they must continue utilizing common seals if their constitution mandates them to. Moreover, documents that are executed under a seal tend to be more readily accepted compared to those without. This is especially true in government agencies and overseas clients.

Use of common seals today

Today, corporations generally use corporate seals mainly for two reasons. These are:

Documents that need to be executed as deeds compared to simple contracts. These might be executed under a company’s common seal. Particular corporate documents, for instance, share certificates are issued often under a company seal.

In some countries, share certificates must be issued under a common seal. A perfect example of a country that requires this is India.

Common seals in Singapore are different but all perform the same basic function of embossing documents using your preferred text. Each of the different company seals brings with it pros and cons.

Some of the most common modern seal embossers include:

  • Hand held plier type common seal
  • Desk top plier common seal
  • Desktop cast aluminium common seal
  • Deluxe gold and black common seal
Is a corporate seal today’s requirement?

Even though official stock certificates and corporate seals were once needed for corporations, in most cases, they are no longer relevant or functional. Generally, states generally recognize the legal power of official stock certificates and corporate seals. Nonetheless, practicality coupled with modern technology has led to the reduction of these powers. Ultimately, official stock certificates and corporate seal might end up becoming a mere symbolic gesture by most corporations.
