With ever growing demand for newer and better embellishments, designers and manufacturers have been hard at work giving form to more creative products. If you are looking into experimenting with something different, then why not try combining metal foiling and rubber stamps?
Metal foil are usually purchased in the form of thin metal sheets/rolls with a sticky or paper backing. Ideal for crafting, some of these metal foils come in powder coated films to recreate effects like the gold leaf effect when they are applied with adhesive glue or embossing powder. What is even better about metal foil is that they come in a variety of different colours, some of which are gold or copper, giving a unique sheen when applied.
Things you will need when combining metal foils with rubber stamps are dye ink, rubber stamps, scissors/craft knives, a heating tool, a glue gun, colouring materials and other embellishments if desired.
Cut the metal foiling to your desired size and carefully heat so that there are changes in colour, allow the metal foil to cool. Once it is cool, make use of your rubber stamp to stamp your desired image on it. Make sure the indentations of your stamped image can be seen clearly, sometimes you may have to stamp on both sides of the metal foiling to achieve clear indentations.
Once you have achieved that, you can perform embossing. Now that you have gotten your desired rubber stamp image on your metal foiling, you can mount the foiling on the material of your choice with your adhesive. Let dry so that the positioning is set. You can then choose to add additional embellishments if applicable and attach them to the metal foiling.
This should complete the process. If you are using gold leaf however, additional caution will have to be added since gold leaf is very fragile. You will also have to buy foiling glue for this case before you can continue. For gold leaf, you will need to apply them directly before using embossing powder over your pigment based ink. Take care not to overheat it and apply the foil right away. Let dry before applying the gold leaf.
If you wish to add other material, you can consider using paint, other types of inks, bronzing powders and glitter for effect.
